Description

The bodhran (pronounced “bow-rawn”) is a tambourine shaped drum which is peculiar to Ireland.

It is made from a kid goatskin stretched over a wooden rim and it is played with the knuckles or with a small piece of wood rounded at each end. Although it is a primitive kind of drum, amazingly, some expert players can actually play scales and tunes on it by damping the skin with their fingers.

The most famous bodhraun maker in Ireland today is Malachy Kearns at Roundstone Musical Instruments.

This piece is 19 “high X 9″ wide and weighs approx. 450g.
